  3. CD-View V2.02c Demo Copy (7 days)
  4.  
  5. These Release Notes accompany CD-View Version 2.02c Demo Copy. This
  6. document should be read by the system administrator.
  7.  
  8. This 7 day demo copy of CD-View V2.02c is provided for demo
  9. purposes only. By installing it, you agree to accept the terms and
  10. conditions of the software license agreement provided in the guide.
  11.  
  12. Demo Copy Restrictions
  13.  
  14. This demo copy allows you to test the capabilities of the product.
  15. As such, the following limitations apply:
  16.  
  17. ·    Demo software will only work for 7 days after installation. No
  18.      registration information is required during product installation.
  19. ·    Only 2 users are supported.
  20. ·    Only 3 volumes are supported.
  21.      Note: As one of the volumes is the default volume SYS:, a
  22.      maximum of 2 CD-ROMs can be supported.
  23.  
  24. OCDX (Ornetix CD-ROM Extensions) Driver
  25.  
  26. The full release of CD-View contains the OCDX driver. OCDX was
  27. developed to overcome the following problems:
  28.  
  29. ·    Some old applications require Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions
  30.      (MSCDEX) loaded in order to be able to run. These applications use
  31.      some of MSCDEX's APIs. MSCDEX will not load on a workstation which
  32.      does not have a CD-ROM device driver (and CD-ROM drive) connected
  33.      to it. In addition, when MSCDEX loads, it allocates a large memory
  34.      buffer for its use. All of this is not required when using OCDX.
  35.  
  36. ·    Other types of applications access the CD-ROM device driver
  37.      directly for either performance or security reasons. OCDX emulates
  38.      the major functionality of a CD-ROM device driver.
  39.  
  40. When loaded, OCDX uses about 2KB of memory and emulates the major
  41. functionality of both MSCDEX and a CD-ROM device driver.
  42.  
  43. Upgrading from Demo Copy
  44.  
  45. When upgrading from the Demo copy to the full release, select the
  46. "Upgrade to New Version" option. This allows you to save bindery
  47. and setup information used with the Demo Copy.
  48.  
  49. Enhancements to Setup utility (not mentioned in the manual)
  50.  
  51. Registration Information Window
  52. ·    The security mechanism has been modified. The Registration
  53.      Information window appears at the beginning of the installation
  54.      procedure and not at the end. Use the security information printed
  55.      on the inside cover of the CD-View User's Manual.
  56.  
  57. Parameter Information Window
  58. ·    External Network Number:
  59.      Defines the segment number on which the CD-View server resides.
  60.      Ensure that this number is the correct segment number used by other
  61.      servers and routers on the same segment. If NETX or VLM is loaded,
  62.      the setup program automatically determines the segment number which
  63.      is used as the default value.
  64.      When CD-View loads, if NETX or VLM is loaded, it attempts to find
  65.      the external segment number and compare it with the number
  66.      specified. If they are different, a warning message is displayed
  67.      and CD-View runs using the correct network number. If neither NETX
  68.      nor VLM is loaded, the number provided will always be used. In this
  69.      case, if the number provided is wrong,  CD-View will be using a
  70.      wrong network number and will not be accessible.
  71. ·    Internal Network Number:
  72.      Defines the internal network number to be used by CD-View. Ensure
  73.      that this number is not used by any other server on the whole
  74.      network.  The default value is determined from the ethernet address
  75.      on the Network Interface Card.
  76.      If you specify a number which is used by another server, routing
  77.      warning information will be displayed on your NetWare server's
  78.      console, identifying the problematic network address.
  79.  
  80. Advanced Setup Window
  81. ·    Filter SAP Packets:
  82.      A SAP filtering option has been added to the Advanced Setup
  83.      window. This option allows restriction of SAP dynamic objects
  84.      which are added to the bindery during operation.
  85.      Following are possible options for this field:
  86.  
  87.     Disable Filtering   All servers are added to the bindery.
  88.     Accept File         Add only advertising file servers to the
  89.     Servers only        bindery. (DEFAULT)
  90.     Filter All Servers  Don't add to the bindery any objects
  91.                         received via SAP.
  92.  
  93.     The default of "Accept File Servers Only" should be used when
  94.     users do not directly login to the CD-View server. If direct
  95.     login is required, this field should be set to "Disable
  96.     Filtering".  For more information on direct logins, refer to the
  97.     CD-View Guide.
  98.  
  99. Volume Information
  100.     Up to 25 volumes (SYS: volume plus 24 CD-ROM volumes) can now be
  101.     displayed in the Volume Information window.
  102.  
  103. ·    The first defined volume (SYS:) can now be set to read/write.
  104.  
  105. Additional Notes
  106.  
  107. ·    If CD-View is logged into a NetWare server, you should issue
  108.      the CASTOFF ALL command prior to loading CD-View. This will prevent
  109.      messages from file server consoles and workstations being displayed
  110.      on your workstation and interrupting CD-View.
  111.
